Luxembourg’s transport association introduces infopool, the management system for timetable data from IVU
Uniform timetables for the Grand Duchy Improved passenger information via the internet
The transport association of Luxembourg, Verkéiersverbond, has chosen the system from IVU for the management of timetable data. In future, data for the internet timetable information service will be prepared using infopool. Furthermore, the additional module infopool.print will make it possible to print timetables for the Grand Duchy with a standard layout.
With the introduction of infopool, the Verkéiersverbond will take on responsibility for the maintenance of the timetable data throughout the association. The anticipation is that there will be more opportunities for quality assurance, and greater flexibility when it comes to providing data updates for the passenger information system. This will mean that mistakes can be corrected sooner and data can be refreshed whenever necessary. And so the customers will be provided with better information.
In addition, there will be uniform print timetables for the Luxembourg transport association. With the help of infopool.print that is no problem. The available datasets can be accessed with only a few mouse clicks and integrated in a standard layout – irrespective of which of the four association companies is involved. If there are any changes to the timetable new pdf files can be generated just as quickly and made available on the Web site. The days of passengers having to refer to a variety of timetable leaflets with different layouts for information if they move between companies within the transport association will soon belong in the past.
“With infopool.print we have developed a convincing additional module for infopool,” says Martin Müller-Elschner, Member of the Management Board of IVU Traffic Technologies AG. “The Luxembourg transport association is now the fourth customer to choose it. And we think that more will follow.”
The transport association of Luxembourg brings together the four public transport companies operating in the Grand Duchy: The Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois (CFL) operates the railway system. The regional bus transport is supervised by RGTR (Regime General des Transports Routiers). The services are provided by private companies and the busses of CFL, as well as those of the inter-communal syndicate TICE (Syndicat des Tramways Intercommunaux dans le Canton d'Esch) in the southern region (Esch-sur-Alzette, Differdange – Dudelange). The public transport in the city of Luxembourg is provided by AVL (Autobus de la Ville de Luxembourg).

infopool is a data management system which brings together all the network and timetable data within a public transport association in a standardised, regularly up-dated database. The datasets can then be passed on to a dynamic timetable information system such as fahrinfo/HAFAS, which can use this to calculate the best connections. These can be made available to customers through various information outlets such as a call centre, information terminals, the internet, or mobile telephones. With infopool.print, the data can be used to produce pdf files, e.g. as the basis for print-versions of the timetable. An integrated tool for quality assurance compares the current database with that of the previous year and identifies faults before releasing the text for printing. infopool.map situates the stops on a map (optionally with aerial photographs and satellite images). It also assists with the cartography-supported quality assurance and with the preparation of the performance statistics.
