Every trip at the right price – the “Ticket Navigator Profi” for MVV Internet-based timetable information and tariff recommendations
The most economical price for every trip – this information is now available for passengers travelling with the public transport services in and around Munich. The “MVV Ticket Navigator Profi” offers a convenient on-line combination of timetable details and tariff information with a single, user-friendly interface. It has been developed by IVU Traffic Technologies AG, Berlin for the Munich area public transport utilities (MVV) and has already proved a success during its test phase. The new product was supported by the Bavarian state government, and with its standardised interfaces it can be used by other public transport services without any problems.
The special feature of the system is that it can offer a number of ticket alternatives for any route, which means that customers do not waste time with a series of searches – and they can also access additional information about each available option, for example how long the ticket will be valid or what they can take with them. The “MVV-Ticket-Navigator Profi” offers a broad spectrum of services. In addition to all trip relationships within the MVV area, it can also combine several trips and any number of people in one process – even making allowance for any tickets which are already available. And if you want to take along your dog or a bicycle, that will be no problem for the ticket navigator either.
“Our customers are very satisfied with our ‘Ticket Navi’ ”, comments Klaus Wergles, managing director of MVV. “They now find it much easier to decide which ticket is worth buying at any specific time. And the interface is so user-friendly that it is fun to work with the new Internet service.”
The secret of its success is that the ‘Ticket-Navi’ can provide all the tariff information for every trip after only a few mouse clicks. It helps with planning – for example for a weekend group excursion – and also makes it possible to find less expensive alternatives – perhaps by starting a trip a bit later in the day, or combining a number of planned activities so that it will be worth buying an IsarCard or a day-ticket.
“With the Ticket Navigator Profi, IVU in cooperation with MVV has adopted a new approach to ticket information services which is the first of its kind in Germany. This innovative service was already very positively received by the customers during its test phase. Although no advertising has been made for the new service whatsoever, it was already accessed by more than 150,000 customers from January to March 2008,” is the up-beat assessment of Klaus Wergles. And Prof. Ernst Denert, Chair of the Management Board of IVU, is also pleased with the success: “It shows once again that it is not enough just to develop software. The most important thing is how people can work with it. The software has to suit the user, otherwise it won’t be used.”
In the course of this year, the Internet service will be gaining a new, technically demanding addition: The “Ticket Navigator” will then be able to calculate so-called trip routes without the need to enter a specific trip at a specific time of day. The passenger will submit a series of trips to be made by public transport, and a time window for their completion. The system will then calculate the possible combinations and display a number of route proposals and the available ticket options, so that the customer can choose the one which seems most appropriate.
